The induction hob requires special power supply and appropriate connection to the mains. You can do it on your own, but if you are not sure how to do it properly we recommend you to use the qualified electrician to have the hob installed.
For your own health and safety we recommend you to have the induction installed by the experienced electrician. In the most cases this appliance is connected to the single phase 230V power source or to the three phase 400V power supply. Very important here is the connection to the separate current circuit to avoid the overload of the electric wiring system at your home or apartment.
What cables are suitable for the installation of the induction hob?
The cables shall be adjusted to the requirements of the appliance manufacturers. The cross-section of the cable must be suitable for the installation type. If we connect the induction hob to the three phase power supply the cable must be minimum 5 x 2,5 mm2, whereas the connection to the single phase requires the 3 x 4 mm2 cables.
In case of the single phase installation the 4 mm2 cable is recommended, but it happens quite often that the 2,5 mm2 cables are already installed at our homes or apartments. This type of cable can also be used. Not everyone is willing to change the electric wiring system at his home only to install the new hob.
Single phase installation
Practically the most hobs which are sold in Poland can be connected to the single phase power supply. This is nothing else than the traditional 230V socket. The installation of the induction hob is carried out by the connection of three cables from the wiring system with the cables from the appliance. The cables must be connected according to colour code.
Some induction hobs are designed for the single phase connection and are equipped with the factory mounted plug. You should keep in mind that the electric wiring system must not be overloaded. To solve this problem we recommend you to create separate current circuit for the induction hob.
Every appliance comes with the manual where you can find useful information on the power surges which you have to follow during the installation. In the manual you can also find all information on the types of cables which must be used to ensure proper connection. So if you want to install the induction hob on your own you will have to read the manual and instructions carefully.
Three phase installation
Not every induction hob can be connected to the three phase power source. If this is possible you have to make sure that the power supply cables have the suitable cross-section. It is also possible to connect the induction hob to the both types of electric wiring system. If we are not quite sure which type of electric wiring system we have at home we should ask a fully qualified electrician to help us.
If we decide to connect the induction hob on our own we should strictly follow the instructions provided in the manual where you can find detailed information on how to connect the cables properly. If we have to connect our appliance to the 400V power supply we use most often two phase cables and the third phase cable and we bridge the neutral wire. To carry out this process we need the earthing.
Installation by the electrician
If you have any doubts while installing the induction hob you should ask an experienced electrician for help. He has all the required qualifications and will install your induction hob properly. The inappropriate installation of the induction hob can result in its damage as well as pose a threat to the health of the person which installs the induction hob.
You should also keep in mind that many manufacturers of induction hobs require that these appliances should be installed by fully qualified technicians. If there is no stamp of the electrician who installed your induction hob your complaints may not be recognized.
The installation process of the induction hob on your own is not difficult. Many manufacturers of the household appliances provide every appliance with the detailed operation manual where you will find all the necessary information. If we already know for which type of installation our induction hob is designed then you just need to strictly follow the instructions and requirements supplied by the manufacturer. If you do not want to take the risk you can always ask the electrician for help.
